Identity Match is a term we use to determine whether your school’s current identity is a match to its intended design elements, goals, and mission. If asked, how would a board member or lead administrator describe your school to a friend? You may be surprised with the results of this short exercise. Over time, many schools can stray from their original mission and design, and not even know it. This exercise nearly always results in a healthy discussion of where your school has gone over time, and where you want it to be.
Identity Match Exercise
Does the school you are running or governing match the school as intended by the charter and founding vision? Carefully compare your school’s current identity versus the school’s mission statement and key design elements.
Your school’s identity can be captured in a number of ways, including but not limited to:
- Reputation and public perception
- Student demographics
- Achievement outcomes
- Organizational data
- Authorizer feedback
